Sleepless and Writing

Note the time...


How long is long enough?
They say it never goes away.
It gets better.
When?
When is overdone?
Is it ever wrong?
Can I control my mind?
Some people control their dreams,
I've heard.
Can they stop it when they want?
When they close their eyes,
Do they see only what they would like to
At that moment?
Or, does it come unbidden
To be driven away?
Is it always there,
Just outside
the corner of one's eye,
Waiting?
Must guards be forever up,
Huddled at the gate,
Watchful and without
Rest?
